Finding a Wedding Photographer

Choosing a photographer for your wedding day is difficult at best. You will find lots of choices, from under £500 to above £5000!  With such a big selection of prices, how do you choose?

Here are some hints:

Set a reasonable budget – the chosen photographer will have an impact for generations. Your wedding day album will be the first family heirloom you might be creating as a couple and the pictures from your wedding reception will end up more and more valuable over the years. You’ll think back at the pictures which will bring to life moments you’ve almost forgotten.

Take references – We’ve all heard the stories about failures about couples who have been waiting for months for photos to be delivered.  Unimaginative posing, poor lighting, out-of-focus pictures, and missed moments can also ruin a bride and groom’s joy whenever they look back at their  pictures.

Choose a Photographer with backup – Photographers who don’t shoot using more than one camera can have equipment failures.

Ask about their Equipment – Shooting with affordable consumer equipment will not produce the outstanding images that professional equipment can.  Ask about their range of lenses and lighting equipment for different shooting situations.

Hand Editing – Photographers who shoot and hand over a CD with hundreds  of unedited pictures. This shows little concern for the quality of the photos they produce.  A true professional will hand edit everyone picture the thing is that, making sure those are the very best that could be provided.

Complete Package – Photographers who will include a completed wedding album inside their packages are providing you with a finished memory book stuffed with beautiful imagery from the most important day you will ever have. A genuine showpiece you’ll be excited to share with friends.

Likeable –  Your photographer will probably be with you all day long. When you talk to prospective photographers, be sure you feel comfortable with them. If they bug you within your meeting, they’ll surely be described as a pain on your big day…

Is an assistant included?  Some photographers include an assistant in their price, others charge extra.

How many hours will they shoot?  Some photographers will take pictures all day; others will only shoot for a certain timeframe and charge extra if you go over.  Be sure to ask ahead of time.

Know how long it will take to get your pictures.  After your big day, it’s normal to be anxious for your pictures to arrive.  Make sure you talk to your photographer beforehand so you know how long the pictures will take.
